The Department of Medical Laboratory Techniques organized a scientific seminar on Monday, May 11, 2026, entitled “Drugs and Their Impact on Individuals and Society,” presented by Prof. Dr. Abdul Hussein Mahdi Al-Jubouri, as part of the Department’s efforts to promote health awareness, strengthen preventive education, and foster social responsibility among students.

The seminar addressed the serious physical and psychological consequences of drug abuse, highlighting its detrimental effects on cognitive abilities, behavioral stability, family cohesion, and social well-being. It also examined the relationship between drug abuse and the increasing rates of crime and delinquency, as well as the resulting social and economic challenges that hinder sustainable development.
Furthermore, the seminar emphasized the importance of raising public awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and the need for coordinated preventive efforts through health education, cultural awareness, and the promotion of positive values that help protect individuals—particularly young people—from the risks of addiction. It also underscored the vital role of educational institutions in fostering a culture of prevention and preparing an informed generation capable of confronting such social challenges.
The seminar concluded with active participation from attendees through insightful discussions and interventions that enriched its themes. Participants stressed the importance of continuing such awareness activities due to their significant role in protecting society, promoting public awareness, and contributing to sustainable community development.
